Nokia N800 Internet Tablet PC

By

Until to you use it, Nokia N800 Internet Tablet seems impressive. Conceived to enable you to sail on the Web and the access e-mail during your displacements, the $ 400 slender device have a design and a solid collection of software. In the final analysis, however, work with N800 is a frustrating experiment.

Measuring 5,7 inches out of 3,0 inches out of 0,5 inches and of a weight of 7,3 ounces, N800 is 0,2 inches finer and 0,8 ounces lighter than last year 770. It is not much larger than a cheque book, and with the light enough hold-all around a pocket of shirt. N800' S luminous, clear 4,1 inches of 800 by 400 pixels of the touchscreen posts photographs, Web pages and vidéos clearly quasi cinematographic. An integrated crutch makes it possible to maintain the apparatus on a table to facilitate visualization the tablet also has a Webcam swivelling and of two sites for memory cards compatible with SD, MicroSD, MiniSD, MMC, RS-MMC charts.

In spite of coming from Nokia, N800 is not a cell phone and not to connect itself to a cellular network. Instead of that, it offers 802.11b/e/g without wire and Bluetooth 2,0 for the access to Internet (if your Bluetooth-enabled cell phone has a fixed price dated). The device based on Linux includes/understands Opera 8 for navigation on the Web, a reader RSS, a customer of email for access POP3 and IMAP, the support for the instant messaging via préinstallée GTalk only programs (although other open sources chatter software could function On N800), and a multimedia player who plays audio and video.

Even if you cannot make cellular phone calls in N800, you can use it for access Internet containing phone services starting from GTalk and Gizmo Project. Webcam supports video calls, but only by the means of a Nokia request currently in beta release test. Nokia affirms that he works with Skype to add a mobile version of his application to N800. The video of telephone can be the killer software of this device. The process of installation is difficult, but after, the telephone provided excellent the video of remote monitoring. In my tests, of one ocean to the video call did not have great shifts or audio stammering, although the image from time to time past out of synchronization. The camera do not require much light to capture an optimal clear image, and is on the left side of the apparatus, it is a little difficult to use.

Unfortunately, other aspects, N800 is a whole of frustrations to delayed-action. Because the device returns the Web pages just like they would consider a size of posting, to post the pages on the small one (quite precise) with the screen requires a zoom before and back. Moreover, certain pages does not take care correctly, probably because they were not conceived to support the Opera navigator. The majority overpowering are N800 the absence of bases of a PDA for example a calendar. It does not function with Outlook from Microsoft or any other Office application is -- if somebody sends a document of Microsoft Office, a spreadsheet, or the presentation to you, N800 cannot read it and you cannot modify it. You will obtain much practice asking of files pdf.

The device has two good keyboards with the screen
