OPPO BDP-80 Blu-ray Disc Player with SACD and DVD-Audio (Black). Customer Review

In my search for a high end quality disc player I finally settled for OPPO BDP-80 Blu-ray Disc Player with SACD and DVD-Audio, and this was just a few days ago. Immediately the disc player impressed me by the clean-cut and elegance of the design and definitely a well thought-out player made with the end user in mind.

The file playback capabilities of this disc player are simple and straightforward to use and you will not spend much time trying to figure out how to operate it. I tried to play some of my audio files in MPG format from an external flash drive and a port located on the front of the player is where you can insert any external drive (only supports USB). The user interface is very appealing and need I forget to mention that the player also supports many other file formats, making it more reliable to use.

Now here are some other remarkable and surprising attributes about this player. When I received the disc player it came packed not wrapped in plastic but in an Oppo tote bag inside a protective box. Also included is a well-written manual in good grammar, this really makes it easy for one to learn how best to use the disc player. Thoughtfully included is a six-inch HDMI cable and the unit has a very solid feel to it. It runs silently when in use and does not run hot so there is no need to buy a cooling fan for it. Tray operations on the disc player feels and sounds solid well damped and there is no ambiguity about whether the disc placement in the tray is correct.

The Oppo disc player remote comes with a number of unusual but useful controls but it is still comfortable and intuitive for basic operations. I like how quick the player is in all modes of operation; it powers up and starts very fast making the tray ready to open in a matter of seconds. When it comes to Blu-ray performance, it is the same with the Play Station 3 but other types of discs load and player as fast as most players. Lastly, I connected it to my home network the player configured itself then searched, found and downloaded the latest firmware, all in a few minutes.

Do I think OPPO BDP-80 Blu-ray Disc Player with SACD and DVD-Audio is a reliable and convenient disc player one should have? Yes I do.
