OPPO BDP-83 Blu-ray Disc Player with SACD, DVD-Audio.Customer review

After a year in production, OPPO BDP-83 Blu-ray Disc Player with SACD, DVD-Audio, and VRS Technology is finally out. I have waited patiently this long just to try this player out and now that I have, a review for the OPPO BDP-83 is due.

OPPO has one of the finest high-end standard DVD players available out there and this includes the stunning DV-983H. The great thing about the BDP-83 is that it uses the same Anchor Bay chip like the DV-983H. This is good because your standard definition DVDs will give out the best performance quality possible. In addition, looking at the Blu-Ray part of the BDP-83, the video and audio qualities are not that bad. I think they are at the same level with most high-end quality Blu-Ray players out there. The BDP-83 is capable of playing both SACD and DVD-Audio discs; this makes it a universal player no doubt.Anyone familiar with first-generation Blu-Ray players is all too familiar with their slow disc-loading times. With new technology advancements, modern players have filled that gap, but the BDP-83 is the fastest currently available.

OPPO opted not to add Netflix, Amazon and YouTube Videos on Demand. One might think that this makes it a lesser product, but actually, it maintains or rather improves the high quality of the BDP-83. However, it would have been great having these luxuries added, but then I would not want a poor performing BDP-83.  On the other hand, OPPO went ahead and included all connections one may require. This includes, the HDMI interface, which supports TrueHD audio as well as 1080p HD video output with 24p (this is under the HDMI support).

The BDP-83 comes with two USB ports with one located in front and the other on the rear. In addition, the BDP-83 can play PAL-formatted DVDs and then convert them to NTSC; truly, this is a remarkable capability. To enable home theater integration, the BDP-83 has IR In and out ports. Finally, the remote control is step up from previous OPPO models and easy to use with the backlighting.

In conclusion, OPPO BDP-83 Blu-ray Disc Player with SACD, DVD-Audio, and VRS Technology is a great product. I do not regret ever purchasing it, each time I am more impressed by the performance and features I highly recommend it.
